J.D. Davis, Jonathan Villar Begin Rehab Assignments
3 years agoNew York Mets infielders J.D. Davis (finger) and Jonathan Villar (calf) have both joined Triple-A Syracuse for rehab assignments on Wednesday. Davis has been out since May 1, while Villar has been sidelined since June 22 with a right calf strain. Villar is expected to need the shorter rehab stint. Davis was showing nice power in just 48 plate appearances before his injury, hitting .390 with a 1.089 OPS and two home runs. The 30-year-old Villar was hitting .246/.333/.410 with six home runs, 29 runs scored, 15 RBI and eight stolen bases in 183 at-bats before he landed on the injured list. It's unclear exactly how the playing time will shake out when Davis and Villar are both back healthy, but both players are at least worth a look in deep mixed leagues. Luis Guillorme has been holding down the hot corner in the Big Apple since Villar went down.
