Gary Woodland Could Contend At Detroit Golf Club
3 years agoDetroit Golf Club should be a nice fit for Gary Woodland. Two of his best results this season -- a 14th-place finish at the Charles Schwab and a fifth-place finish at the Wells Fargo -- have both come on classical, tree-lined golf courses. Naturally, fantasy managers may presume that Woodland is better suited for a more difficult test, but there is no reason to believe that the University of Kansas product will not be able to keep up in a birdie-fest. The four-time PGA Tour winner ranks 39th in opportunities gained, 23rd in strokes gained on par-fives and 26th in birdies or better gained over his last 36 rounds. Woodland struck the ball well at the U.S. Open, gaining 3.5 strokes off the tee and on approach for the fourth consecutive week as well. Expect Woodland to continue his solid tee-to-green production and play a factor come Sunday afternoon in Detroit.
