Reds Call Up Alejo Lopez
3 years agoThe Cincinnati Reds selected the contract of infielder Alejo Lopez from Triple-A Louisville on Monday and designated outfielder Scott Heineman for assignment in a corresponding move. Lopez, 25, has been the most dominant hitter in the Reds farm system this year, slashing a combined .360/.437/.485 with two home runs, 41 runs scored, 27 RBI and six stolen bases in 49 games (229 plate appearances) with Double-A Chattanooga and Louisville. He reached base in all 25 games he played in at Double-A. The switch-hitter batted .358 with a .436 on-base percentage, 10 doubles and 14 RBI in 24 games with Louisville. There isn't much power here, but Lopez has some speed and the ability to play multiple infield positions. He'll serve as infield depth in Cincinnati and will be making his major league debut when he gets into a game.
