Madison Bumgarner Tosses Another Pen Session
Madison Bumgarner (shoulder) participated in another bullpen session on Sunday. The veteran continues to increase his activity level after being diagnosed with shoulder inflammation at the beginning of June. The southpaw is currently sitting on a 5.73 ERA and could be back at some point in July. However, with the team also missing other crucial members of the rotation, specifically Taylor Widener (groin), J.B. Bukauskas (elbow), and Seth Frankoff (forearm), Matt Peacock and Corbin Martin will likely be spending more time on the bump moving ahead. Though, neither man should be considered a reliable fantasy alternative.

Diamondbacks Designate Madison Bumgarner For Assignment
Madison Bumgarner for assignment on Thursday after four ugly starts to open the 2023 campaign, according to sources. Bumgarner has a 10.26 ERA in his four starts this year and entered the season still owed $37 million on his five-year, $85 million deal that he signed before the 2020 season. The 33-year-old veteran southpaw just hasn't had it early on this year, as he's allowed 20 runs (19 earned) on 25 hits (four home runs surrendered) while walking 15 and striking out 10 in 16 2/3 innings over his four starts. This will effectively end his time with Arizona, and he'll be on the open market shortly after passing through waivers. A change of scenery could help MadBum, but fantasy managers shouldn't bet on it.

Madison Bumgarner Could Miss Next Start
Madison Bumgarner is off to a horrendous beginning to the season. The left-hander was torched for seven runs over three innings of work during Wednesday's game against the St. Louis Cardinals. He holds a 10.26 ERA, 2.40 WHIP and 10/15 K/BB ratio across four starts this season. Following Wednesday's game, manager Torey Lovullo said he isn't committing to Bumgarner making his next start. He continued by saying that he'll need to talk it over before making a decision. The 33-year-old might find his way into the bullpen if things don't start getting better for him on the mound.

Madison Bumgarner Takes The Loss Versus Miami
Madison Bumgarner had another ugly performance on Friday in the loss to the Miami Marlins. The lefty was on the hill for the third time this season. However, things weren't any different, with Bumgarner allowing nine hits and five earned runs through five innings. He now sits on a rough 0-2 record and a miserable 7.90 ERA (13 2/3 innings). That said, Bumgarner has likely found his way off fantasy rosters, which will remain the trend until he turns things around.

Madison Bumgarner Expects To Make Next Start
Madison Bumgarner (arm) said his left arm feels better and he's thrown since returning to Phoenix. He expected to make his next scheduled start on Friday against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Bumgarner dealt with fatigue in his first start of the year and thinks he just overdid his throwing in the week prior to the start. The 33-year-old allowed five runs on four hits while walking four in four innings against the Dodgers in his season debut last Saturday. He doesn't have any structural damage in his arm, though, so he won't need a trip to the injured list. Fantasy managers should be extremely wary of using MadBum in a rematch with a potent Dodgers lineup.
