Chi Chi Gonzalez Surrenders One Run, Takes The Loss
4 years agoColorado Rockies starting pitcher Chi Chi Gonzalez took the loss on Sunday when he allowed one run on three hits with two walks and four strikeouts across five innings in a 5-0 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers. Gonzalez actually pitched well over his five innings, the only earned run coming via a Keston Hiura solo home run in the third. He didn't deserve a loss but the Rockies weren't able to push a single run across the plate so he took his fifth defeat of the year. The 29-year-old right-hander now owns a 5.81 ERA, 1.45 WHIP, and 41:20 K/BB ratio across 69 2/3 innings (15 appearances, 11 starts). He'll face the Cardinals at home in his next turn but he's not a reliable fantasy option.

Chi Chi Gonzalez Agrees With Marlins
2 years agoThe Miami Marlins agreed to terms with right-hander Chi Chi Gonzalez on a minor-league deal on Tuesday. The deal includes an invitation to spring training next year. The 30-year-old pitched for the Minnesota Twins, Milwaukee Brewers and New York Yankees in 2022, going a combined 7-5 with a 5.87 ERA (5.55 FIP), a 1.52 WHIP, 15 strikeouts and seven walks in 23 innings over just seven appearances (five starts). At best, Gonzalez will be a fill-in spot starter for the Marlins rotation in 2023. In six major-league seasons with five different teams, Gonzalez has a 5.66 ERA (5.37 FIP), a 1.49 WHIP and a 13.5 percent strikeout rate in 284 2/3 innings pitched covering 68 outings (52 starts).

Chi Chi Gonzalez Signs With Yankees
3 years agoThe New York Yankees signed free-agent right-hander Chi Chi Gonzalez to a minor league deal on Tuesday. It would be an understatement to say that Gonzalez has bounced around in 2022. The Yankees will be his fourth major league team after stops with the Detroit Tigers, Minnesota Twins and Milwaukee Brewers. He's only thrown 18 1/3 innings over six appearances (four starts), allowing 14 earned runs on 24 hits (five homers surrendered) while walking four and striking out 12. The 30-year-old will merely serve as minor league depth for the Yankees down the stretch.

Chi Chi Gonzalez Opts Out Of Contract With Twins
3 years agoMinnesota Twins right-hander Chi Chi Gonzalez, who made a spot start for the team last Friday, exercised an opt-out clause in his contract. The Twins now have 48 hours to add him to the 26-man roster or release him. There's a chance that the team uses Gonzalez to start the game on Saturday against the Tampa Bay Rays, but it's likely that he'll be designated for assignment after that. The 30-year-old allowed three earned runs on four hits (two home runs) while walking none and striking out just one in a three-inning start last Friday against the Toronto Blue Jays. In eight outings (five starts) for Triple-A St. Paul this year, Gonzalez has a 3.44 ERA and 1.26 WHIP in 36 2/3 innings.
