Gerrit Cole Strikes Out Six In No-Decision
3 years agoNew York Yankees starting pitcher Gerrit Cole put together another strong performance despite not factoring into the decision Tuesday night against the Kansas City Royals. Cole pitched seven innings, allowing two runs on just three hits while walking three. He threw 72 of his 108 pitches for strikes, fanning six batters and generating 14 whiffs, eight of them on his slider. Cole's spin rates on his fastball, slider, and knuckle curve were all down by at least 100 RPMs, though his performance was still a great one for fantasy purposes. Cole has yet to post a double-digit strikeout effort in seven outings, though he has recorded three straight quality starts, picking up two victories in that span. While his strikeout rate has declined over his last several starts, Cole's overall numbers and Statcast metrics point to those of an ace, which he should continue to be for his fantasy managers.
