Tread Lightly With Matthew Wolff
3 years agoFantasy managers will be excited to play Matthew Wolff after he surprised many with his 15th-place finish last week at the U.S. Open, yet they should be wary of an inflated price tag. While it was great to watch Wolff return to competitive action, fantasy managers should exercise patience and save Wolff for a course that fits his game better than TPC River Highlands. The Oklahoma State product is losing over a half a stroke per round to the field on Pete Dye Courses, good for 110th in this field. Wolff loses much of his competitive advantage on compact course like TPC River Highlands, and unlike other bombers such as Bryson DeChambeau, he has not yet mastered the strategy required to navigate a club-down course. Wolff has never actually recorded a top-10 finish in his career on a course measuring under 7,200 yards. Wolff should be on the radar of fantasy managers going forward, but there are far better fits in his price range for the specific style of play that TPC River Highlands will require this week.
