Jordan Montgomery Allows One Run In No-Decision
3 years agoNew York Yankees starting pitcher Jordan Montgomery authored a strong effort despite not factoring into the decision in Sunday's win over the Oakland Athletics. Montgomery allowed one run on three hits with two walks issued over 5 1/3 innings pitched. The southpaw struck out six batters and generated an impressive 17 whiffs on 85 pitches. Montgomery had the changeup working in particular, as it accounted for 11 of his whiffs- and Athletics' hitters averaged just a 79.7 MPH average exit velocity against the pitch. It was a strong rebound performance for Montgomery, who had allowed seven combined earned runs in his last two starts. His inconsistency probably makes him more of a matchup-based fantasy starter moving forward, though managers might want to think twice about starting him in his next outing against the Boston Red Sox.
