4 years agoNew York Yankees shortstop Gleyber Torres (back) isn't believed to be dealing with a serious injury, per manager Aaron Boone. Torres was forced to exit Thursday's game with lower back stiffness, which he sustained while turning a double play against the Toronto Blue Jays. Boone said that the 24-year-old received treatment during the game and that the club will assess where he's at Friday ahead of the opening game of their series against the Oakland Athletics. While it appears that Torres has avoided serious injury, it still wouldn't be surprising to see him sit out a game. Gio Urshela would likely draw a start at shortstop in that instance.--Tim Capurso

5 days agoThe Detroit Tigers announced on Monday that they placed infielder Gleyber Torres (oblique) on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to March 29) with a left-oblique strain and recalled infielder/outfielder Justyn-Henry Malloy from Triple-A Toledo in a corresponding move. Torres suffered what the team was calling a rib injury on Friday in the loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers, and he sat out of Saturday's series finale at Dodger Stadium as a result. It's a tough break for the 28-year-old Venezuelan to start his first year in Detroit, but the injury wasn't believed to be very severe, so hopefully he'll be able to come off the IL when eligible. With Torres sidelined on Saturday, Colt Keith moved to the keystone and Spencer Torkelson manned first base. That should be the setup moving forward with Torres on the shelf. Malloy will provide depth for a beat-up Tigers outfield.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

7 days agoDetroit Tigers second baseman Gleyber Torres (ribs) is out of the starting lineup ahead of Saturday's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Torres was removed early during Friday's game due to rib injury. This doesn't appear to be something that will land Torres on the injured list. For now, fantasy managers should consider Torres as day-to-day. Colt Keith will cover second base and bat fifth against right-hander Roki Sasaki. Keith is hitless during his first two games of the season and doesn't have an easy challenge in first of him. He's worth rostering in deep leagues or AL-only formats, but doesn't have great streaming value on Saturday.--Andy Webb - RotoBaller

1 week agoDetroit Tigers second baseman Gleyber Torres (rib) said that he's had some rib pain over the last few days and felt more sore than normal on Friday, especially on his home run against the Los Angeles Dodgers, which was an unusual swing on a pitch way inside, according to MLive's Evan Woodbery. Torres tried to play through the discomfort for a few innings on Friday night at Dodger Stadium for a few innings before deciding to call it a day on Day 2 of the regular season. He said he's already feeling much better after a round of post-game treatment, although it remains to be seen if he'll be back in the starting lineup on Saturday. It sounds like the 28-year-old's injury isn't all that serious, but fantasy managers will want to check to make sure Torres is playing this evening. If he misses some time, Zack McKinstry, Colt Keith and Andy Ibanez are all candidates to play second base.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

1 week agoDetroit Tigers second baseman Gleyber Torres (side) hit a solo home run in the third inning of Friday's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers at Dodger Stadium, but he was then pulled in the sixth inning due to a side injury. Torres was seen grabbing at his left side while rounding the bases after his home run, and he was later replaced at the keystone by Zack McKinstry, with Javier Baez entering the game to play third base. The 28-year-old went 1-for-2 with a walk before leaving early with what could be a dreaded oblique injury. For now, fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day, but this is certainly an injury that could land Torres on the injured list. If that ends up being the case, McKinstry, Colt Keith and Andy Ibanez would all be options to move to the keystone. If Keith is moved to second, Spencer Torkelson, who homered on Opening Day would move to first base.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
