Michael Fulmer Could Return Soon
4 years agoThe Detroit Free Press' Evan Petzold reported in a tweet Monday that Detroit Tigers manager A.J. Hinch said right-hander Michael Fulmer (shoulder) could return from the injured list either Monday or Tuesday. Fulmer has pitched to a 3.34 ERA with 35 strikeouts, 10 walks and four saves in 35 innings pitched. He began the year in the rotation but soon moved into a high-leverage role coming out of the bullpen. The former Rookie of the Year should re-enter the high-leverage mix alongside Jose Cisnero and Gregory Soto once he's activated. Hinch has played matchups more as opposed to going with a set closer, so there's a bit of uncertainty with this bullpen from a fantasy standpoint. What does seem certain, though, is that Fulmer should work in high-leverage spots, whether those come in the ninth inning or not. Before being placed on the injured list, he seemed to have established himself as Detroit's most dependable reliever.

Michael Fulmer Could Be Deployed As A Starter
3 months agoAccording to Chris Cotillo of MassLive, the Boston Red Sox could stretch out right-handed pitcher Michael Fulmer and deploy him as a starting pitcher during the 2025 season. Red Sox chief baseball officer Craig Breslow said that the team is exploring ways to stretch out Fulmer, and it's a decision the team feels "confident in." Fulmer missed the entire 2023 campaign due to a UCL revision surgery but is expected to be a full-go for Spring Training. The former 2017 American League Rookie of the Year has not started a game since the 2021 campaign. During the 2022 and 2023 seasons, the right-hander held a 3.88 ERA and a 1.35 WHIP out of the bullpen. If Fulmer performs well during Spring Training, he could be worth a look in AL-only formats, especially if given a spot in the rotation.

Michael Fulmer Begins Throwing Off A Mound
5 months agoBoston Red Sox pitcher Michael Fulmer (elbow) has begun to throw off of a mound and is on pace to be ready for spring training, barring any setbacks. Fulmer last pitched in the majors in 2023, missing all of the 2024 season after undergoing UCL surgery. The 31-year-old was the American League Rookie of the Year in 2016 but missed all of 2019 after having Tommy John surgery that year. While he came into the league as a starter, more recently he's worked as a reliever, and that is where he's expected to help Boston next season should he make the team in the spring. He's currently signed to a minor-league deal with the team.

Red Sox Sign Michael Fulmer To Minor-League Deal
1 year agoThe Boston Red Sox signed free-agent right-hander Michael Fulmer (elbow) to a two-year, minor-league deal on Thursday. Fulmer won't be on the fantasy radar at all in 2024, as he's expected to miss the entire season after having UCL revision surgery. The 30-year-old will then serve as relief depth for the BoSox in 2025. The former first-round pick and American League Rookie of the Year in 2016 with the Detroit Tigers went 3-5 with a 4.42 ERA (4.15 FIP), a 1.33 WHIP, two saves, 28 walks and 65 strikeouts in 57 innings over 58 appearances (one start) for the Chicago Cubs this past season. Fulmer began his career as a starter, but injuries have forced him into a full-time relief role at this point of his career.
