Spencer Torkelson Promoted To Double-A
3 years agoThe Detroit Tigers have promoted first base prospect Spencer Torkelson to Double-A from High-A. The first-over selection from the 2021 draft had started the season off slowly and hit just .235 with three home runs in the first month of the season but he caught fire in June. Prior to his promotion, he was hitting .439 with two home runs and a BB-K of 9-7 through 12 games. The 21-year-old slugger hasn't been hitting for as much power as expected but he's been an on-base machine (17% walk rate) and has made huge strides with his contact rate which has dipped to 20%. With a 170 wRC+ at High-A, he had very little left to prove. Torkelson is ranked by RotoBaller as the top first base prospect in baseball.
