Brendan Rodgers Receives A Day Off On Wednesday
4 years agoColorado Rockies middle infielder Brendan Rodgers will not suit up Wednesday as he gets the night off. Rodgers has been unimpressive from the plate, going 5-for-30 after coming back to play from an injury. He has appeared in nine games for the Rockies in 2021, posting a .167 batting average while producing zero home runs and two RBI. At this time, Rodgers isn't a player that would help any fantasy gamers lineup in the offensive department.

Brendan Rodgers Making Another Start At Second Base
1 day agoHouston Astros infielder Brendan Rodgers is making a second straight start over Mauricio Dubon on Friday at second base and will bat eighth against the visiting New York Mets and right-hander Tylor Megill at Daikin Park. All signs pointed to Dubon seeing most of the playing time at the keystone to open the 2025 season after the Astros decided to move All-Star Jose Altuve to left field full time, but so far it's been Rodgers at the keystone in Houston. The 28-year-old former Rockies second baseman went hitless in four plate appearances with one walk in the team's Opening Day win over the Mets on Thursday. The Astros may actually prefer the oft-injured Rodgers at the keystone to begin the season, but if he's not producing, Dubon could get his opportunity sooner than later. Rodgers had extreme home/road splits while with Colorado and should only be rostered in AL-only fantasy leagues for the time being.

Brendan Rodgers Gets The Nod At Second Base For Houston
2 days agoHouston Astros infielder Brendan Rodgers is making the start at second base and is batting eighth on Opening Day on Thursday against the New York Mets and right-hander Clay Holmes at Daikin Park in Houston. Rodgers will make the first start at the keystone for the 'Stros in 2025, but Mauricio Dubon is expected to see most of the playing time at the position for the team this year. The 28-year-old Rodgers hit just .233 (10-for-43) with five doubles, eight RBI and four runs scored in 44 plate appearances over 15 Grapefruit League games this spring and should mainly operate as a utility infielder in his first year in Houston. He has four career at-bats against Holmes and has not recorded a hit. Not only has Rodgers struggled to stay healthy in his career, but he has never hit very well away from hitter-friendly Coors Field, which will pose a problem now that he's no longer playing for the Rockies.

Brendan Rodgers Makes Astros Opening Day Roster
4 days agoHouston Astros manager Joe Espada said Tuesday that second baseman Brendan Rodgers earned the final spot on the major-league roster, per the Houston Chronicle's Matt Kawahara. The 28-year-old signed a minor-league deal with the Astros this offseason and put forth a mediocre spring offensively, slashing .233/.250/.349 with no home runs and eight RBI in 44 plate appearances. Rodgers put together solid batting averages during his time with the Rockies, but he was never able to take advantage of his power potential at Coors Field. He will likely have to compete with Mauricio Dubon for playing time at second base with Jose Altuve moving to left field. Despite making the big-league roster, Rodgers is only worth a fantasy look in deep leagues at this time.

Astros Sign Infielder Brendan Rodgers To Minor-League Deal
1 month agoThe Houston Astros have signed free-agent infielder Brendan Rodgers to a minor-league deal with an invitation to spring training on Tuesday night. Rodgers had played his entire career with the Colorado Rockies before being non-tendered in the offseason. The former third-overall draft pick never lived up to his top prospect billing but was able to cobble together a .267-13-54-67-1 line in 2024. He's still only 28 years old, so he's still got time to turn it around, and maybe a new organization will help unlock his true potential. With an aging Jose Altuve currently slotted in as the starting second baseman, it's wise for the Astros to also have an insurance policy in Rodgers.
