Robby Anderson 2021 Outlook: Reunited and It Feels... Kind of Mediocre
4 years agoThe new Carolina Connection between Robby Anderson and Sam Darnold is a familiar one. The QB-WR combo played together with the Jets from 2018-2019, connecting on 102 receptions for 1,531 yards across two seasons. Although they had their moments, these two seasons weren't a high point on Anderson's resume. His most productive NFL seasons were the year before Darnold arrived when he averaged 58.8 yards per game, 8.3 yards per target, and seven touchdowns in 2017 with Josh McCown as the primary QB and 2020 when he caught a career-high 95 balls for 1,096 yards from Teddy Bridgewater. Whether Darnold can redeem himself in Carolina is a large part of the narrative for Anderson's fantasy value in 2021. There is familiarity but it isn't assured to result in better numbers for Anderson. As such, he shouldn't be counted on as a third receiver type despite his early ADP of WR33. Receivers around the same range like DeVonta Smith, Tyler Boyd, and Curtis Samuel may be in better position to produce.
