Ryan Tepera Picks Up First Save
3 years agoChicago Cubs relief pitcher Ryan Tepera picked up his first save of the season on Thursday afternoon versus the Pittsburgh Pirates. Tepera entered in the bottom of the eighth inning with two outs and the bases loaded. He was able to get the Cubs out of a big jam. The right-hander would then finish things off in the ninth inning with two strikeouts and a groundout for the victory. Tepera is now 1-for-3 in save chances and got the opportunity with closer Craig Kimbrel being unavailable after pitching in the last three games. Tepera now owns a 2.66 ERA and figures to be in the mix for saves with Andrew Chafin if Kimbrel is dealt by the trade deadline. He is worth keeping an eye on for managers that roster Kimbrel and is a valuable option in leagues that count holds.
