Franchy Cordero Optioned To Triple-A Worcester
Franchy Cordero was sent down to the minors following Wednesday night's marathon game against the Atlanta Braves. Cordero has struggled mightily to start the year, with a .179/.228/.274 slash line in 95 at-bats. The writing seemed to be on the wall after he didn't play against several right-handed starting pitchers over the last week. Hopefully he gets things straightened out at Triple-A Worcester, but fantasy managers can drop him from their rosters.

Jake Bauers Goes On Injured List, Franchy Cordero Called Up
Jake Bauers (shoulder) on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to July 6) on Friday with a left rotator-cuff contusion and recalled infielder/outfielder Franchy Cordero from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in a corresponding move. It's unknown how long Bauers will be out after injuring his left shoulder while diving for a ball in the outfield on Wednesday. The 27-year-old was seeing regular playing time in right field with Aaron Judge (toe) out and was hitting .224 with seven homers in 134 at-bats. Cordero could now see decent playing time in right for the Yanks until Judge is able to return. He's starting in right and batting ninth on Friday against Chicago Cubs right-hander Jameson Taillon.

Franchy Cordero Demoted On Thursday
Franchy Cordero was optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Thursday, according to MLB.com. The move comes amid the return of three Yankees from the injured list on Friday; Josh Donaldson (hamstring), Giancarlo Stanton (hamstring), and Tommy Kahnle (biceps). The 28-year-old has appeared in 19 games this season, hitting just .148 with four home runs, six runs, and 11 RBI. If fantasy managers were rostering Cordero, now is the time to drop him in all leagues.

Franchy Cordero Agrees To Big-League Deal With Yankees
Franchy Cordero and the New York Yankees agreed on a split major-league deal on Wednesday, according to sources. The deal will pay him $1 million in the big leagues and $180,000 in the minors in 2023. Barring another move, Cordero would be on the team's Opening Day roster. Cordero hit over .400 in Grapefruit League action for the Baltimore Orioles, but he was released on Monday and now latches on with the Yankees. The 28-year-old left-handed-hitting Dominican spent last year with the Boston Red Sox, slashing .219/.300/.397 with a career-high eight home runs, 29 RBI, 36 runs scored and four steals in 84 games played. He has a career .221/.290/.386 slash line in six big-league seasons and will represent outfield depth for the Yanks this year. Cordero is probably only worth grabbing in AL-only affairs.

Franchy Cordero Suffers Sprained Ankle
Franchy Cordero (ankle) jammed his right leg into the left field wall in the fifth inning of Monday's game against the Tampa Bay Rays and had to be carted off the field. The official diagnosis was a right ankle sprain. Skipper Alex Cora said Cordero will undergo an MRI exam on Tuesday to see if there's ligament damage. "In the beginning, it felt really bad, but as I was coming to the clubhouse it was feeling better," said Cordero. "At first, I felt it was something worse than it was." The 28-year-old went 0-for-2 with two strikeouts before departing, so it was a rough day for Cordero. He's unlikely to play on Tuesday, but it remains to be seen if he'll miss the rest of the season. With Triston Casas now on the major league roster, Cordero is unlikely to see regular playing time in Boston's outfield.
