Matt Shoemaker Records Quality Start In No-Decision
4 years agoMinnesota Twins starting pitcher Matt Shoemaker put together a strong effort despite the no-decision in Monday's win over the Baltimore Orioles. Shoemaker tossed six innings of one-run ball, allowing five hits and two walks while fanning three batters. The veteran right-hander allowed an RBI double to Anthony Santander in the first inning but settled in nicely after that, impressively working out of a slight jam in the third inning. The key for Shoemaker was his splitter, as he induced six whiffs and eight groundball outs with the offering. He has recorded back-to-back quality starts, thanks in part to a commitment to more off-speed stuff. Shoemaker will face the Kansas City Royals on May 30. The Royals got to him for eight runs in the first meeting, so fantasy managers might want to be a bit cautious about utilizing him as a streamer.
