ANALYSIS: Someone may have already beaten you to the punch on Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Spencer Turnbull. That tends to happen when you pitch a no-hitter and have a 2.88 ERA and 0.96 WHIP on the year. That combination of feats is usually not something you'll find on the waiver wire.

But for anyone who still has a shot at Turnbull - who is available in nearly 75% of Yahoo! leagues as of this writing - he's at least worth a look for you.
Prior to this past week's no-hitter, Turnbull had made five starts. Two of them were quality starts and he had a solid, albeit unspectacular, ERA of 3.91 over the five-start stretch. The no-hitter of course enhanced all of his season-long stats, but he had shown enough to at least awaken our curiosities before his career-best outing.
Turnbull's season-long 2.88 ERA is backed up by an xERA of 3.01. He's been fantastic at limiting walks this year with just a 5.7% walk rate, about half of where it was last year (12%), when he posted a 3.97 ERA and 1.34 WHIP over 11 starts.
Turnbull has a weak Tigers' offense backing him, which will hurt his win potential, but Comerica Park's pitcher-friendly atmosphere helps neutralize that a bit. He should be able to maintain an ERA around or under 3.50 for the bulk of the year with a few quality starts per month. He's worth adding for anyone who needs pitching help, which, who doesn't, right? He's a two-start pitcher next week, facing the Cleveland Indians on Monday and the New York Yankees on Saturday.
