Jose Berrios Fans Seven In Victory
Jose Berrios struck out seven batters in five innings of work to earn his fourth victory of the season against the Los Angeles Angels Thursday. Berrios allowed three earned runs on a trio of hits while issuing just one walk. The 26-year-old surrendered a leadoff homer in the first inning and a pair of hits and runs in the second but settled into cruise control for his final three frames. Berrios' fastball was nearly a tick faster than normal, and his curveball registered a spin rate above his season average- both offerings played like it, as they generated 43 and 64 percent whiff rates Thursday. Berrios improved to 4-2 on the season and will carry a 3.91 ERA and 56:15 strikeout-to-walk ratio into his next outing against the Orioles on May 25.

Jose Berrios To Start Opening Day For Blue Jays
Jose Berrios will be the team's Opening Day starter next Thursday, March 27, against the division-rival Baltimore Orioles at home, according to manager John Schneider. Kevin Gausman has been slow-played during spring training, which is probably why Berrios is getting the nod to start the first game of the year. The 30-year-old veteran's strikeout rate fell to just 19.5 percent last year with Toronto, although he finished with a decent 3.60 ERA and 1.15 WHIP with 153 strikeouts and 54 walks in 192 1/3 innings over 32 starts. He's had a solid spring with a 2.35 ERA, 13 strikeouts and four walks in four starts covering 15 1/3 innings pitched. Berrios is no longer a big strikeout guy, which lowers his fantasy floor and ceiling, but he's been as durable as they come for a starting pitcher. We would recommend avoiding him in DFS in a tough first matchup against the O's.

Jose Berrios Strikes Out Eight In Friday's Win
Jose Berrios tossed a gem in a 3-1 win over the Oakland A's on Friday. Berrios allowed one run on six hits over seven innings while striking out eight and walking one to earn the win. The veteran wound up notching 12 swinging strikes to improve his record to 10-9 on the season. Overall, Berrios has a 3.97 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, and 111 strikeouts over 142 2/3 innings of work. Even though his strikeouts are down this season, Berrios remains a solid mid-rotation asset in fantasy leagues. He will look to stay hot in his next start, which is scheduled for Wednesday against the Los Angeles Angels.

Jose Berrios Notches 10 Strikeouts
Jose Berrios was racking up strikeouts during Sunday's game against the Seattle Mariners. Berrios recorded 10 strikeouts while allowing four runs in a no-decision. The long ball continues to haunt Berrios as all the damage in this game came off home runs. Despite that, Berrios was able to miss enough bats with his excellent stuff that it kept his team in the game. He'll take a 3.76 ERA, 1.13 WHIP, and 87/29 K/BB ratio into his next start against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
