Tomas Nido Making Case For More Playing Time
4 years agoNew York Mets catcher Tomas Nido hit a clutch, two-out solo home run off of Braves closer William Smith in the top of the ninth inning on Tuesday evening, leading the Mets to a 4-3 victory. It was Nido's second home run of the season, with his first coming earlier this month. In limited action during the month of May, Nido is slashing .333/.407/.625 with two home runs and four RBI over 24 at-bats. With starting catcher James McCann struggling at the plate -- he's hitting only .208 on the season with just one HR and eight RBI -- Nido could start to get more playing time at the expense of McCann. Nido has started for the Mets in the first two games of their three-game set in Atlanta and has gone a combined 4-for-8. Manager Luis Rojas needs to maximize any offense that he can get with a number of Mets regulars currently on the injured list. As a result, fantasy managers in deep two-catcher or NL-only formats may want to keep tabs on Nido should he start to see more frequent at-bats.
