Matt Shoemaker Surrenders Five Earned Runs In Loss
4 years agoMinnesota Twins starting pitcher Matt Shoemaker took his fourth loss of the season in Friday's 6-1 defeat at the hands of the Athletics. Shoemaker pitched six innings but gave up five earned runs on five hits, striking out four while walking a pair. The nine-year veteran made it through four frames relatively unscathed but allowed a pair of two-run homers in the fifth and sixth. Shoemaker now owns a 6.62 ERA and is allowing a career-worst 2.6 home runs per nine innings. Given his injury history, it's not out of the question to suspect there's an underlying issue- though whether it's injury or ineffectiveness, he could soon find himself out of the rotation if he doesn't begin to put together some more consistent results. Shoemaker shouldn't be started in any formats in his next outing against the White Sox.
