Michael Chavis Doubles Twice
Michael Chavis led off Thursday and went 2-for-5 in the contest. Both of his hits went for doubles, his first two of the year, and he came around to score both times. Chavis has only played in five games this season with 18 total at-bats, but in that limited action, he's produced a .556 slugging percentage. If Chavis continues to lead off, he could be a quality short-term fantasy addition in the middle infield slot until Kike Hernandez returns from injury.

Michael Chavis Inks Minors Deal With Mariners
Michael Chavis have agreed on a minor-league deal for the 2024 season. The deal comes with an invite to big-league spring training. A former top prospect with the Red Sox, the 28-year-old is now with his fourth organization as he's struggled to put it together at the plate at the MLB level. He owns a career .238 average with a decent 42 home runs and eight stolen bases across 357 big-league games played. He's brought a decent amount of pop to the table but he has walked in just 5.4% of his career plate appearances to pair with a bloated 31.9% K%. As a result, his bat has graded out 20% below the league average for his career, as per his 80 wRC+. He was designated for assignment by the Nationals earlier this offseason.

Michael Chavis Clears Waivers, Elects Free Agency
Michael Chavis has cleared outright waivers and has elected to become a free agent. A once-promising prospect in the Boston Red Sox organization, the now 28-year-old appeared in 48 games with the Nationals in 2023 and limped to a .242 average with a pair of homers, one stolen base, and a .622 OPS across 96 trips to the plate. It was the fifth consecutive underwhelming season for the 2014 first-round pick as he now owns a career .238 average, 42 HR, eight SB, and a .684 OPS across 1,186 plate appearances, production that grades out 20% below the league average, as per his 80 wRC+. However, he has handled himself well throughout his minor-league career, so it's quite possible he will latch on with another club for infield depth while potentially heading overseas for the 2024 season.
