One and Done Selections - Valspar Championship
Joe Nicely - Viktor Hovland
Alternate - Jason Kokrak
For the first time this year, I found myself a bit limited due to the players I have available in this contest. My natural inclination was Corey Conners, but I used the Canadian at Valero a few weeks ago. Same story with Joaquin Niemann, Abraham Ancer, and course-history beast Paul Casey. The lack of options led me down a road I really wasn’t expecting to go this week, but I don’t think I can go wrong with one of my favorite players on the PGA Tour, Viktor Hovland.
V-Hova might go a bit overlooked this week, as this will be his first career start in the Valspar. While he hasn’t yet played this difficult Copperhead Course, I think it’s a tremendous fit for Hovland on paper, as ball-striking is consistently the order of the day on this track. The young Norwegian has that in spades and is one of the best in the world on “hard” golf courses.

Spencer Aguiar - Joaquin Niemann
Alternate - Louis Oosthuizen
The terrible run continued for me at the RBC Heritage, as I missed my second straight cut with Tommy Fleetwood. Luckily, I was able to avoid a complete onslaught from the RotoBaller crew and still remain in first after 16 events, although that lead has diminished weekly over the last month.
With getting back on track as my number one priority, I am gladly selecting Joaquin Niemann this week for the Valspar Championship. Niemann ranks third in my model for statistical prowess and grades inside the top-25 when it comes to strokes gained approach, par-five birdie or better percentage, overall bogey avoidance and proximity from over 150 yards.

Josh Bennett - Sungjae Im
Alternate - Paul Casey
As the “don’t overthink it” strategy continues to thrive, I have to be honest, this week is a tough one. There is one player that stands out to me that I’d have picked in a heartbeat, but I’ve already used him. So, a mini pause in the normal strategy had me digging some more into other players, and Sungjae popped as the next best option. This is a course where you have to be a great off-the-tee player, and then be able to scramble your way around the golf course when you do get in trouble (and it WILL happen here). Those are two of Sungjae’s biggest strengths. He’s not long off the tee by any means, but he can hit it straight which is important this week. His irons are trending in the right direction which is great, but he’s always been good scrambling which will save him the big numbers if the irons don’t fire up. He finished in fourth here the last time it was played and he’s been playing extremely good golf aside from a blemish at the Masters, so we should see him put up another solid finish again this weekend.
Yearly Earnings - $2,687,775
Yearly Cuts Made - 12/16
Andrew Putters - Jason Kokrak
Alternate - Chris Kirk
All signs are pointing to Kokrak this week for me. Jason ranks 18th SG off the tee, 46th SG tee to green, and 21st SG putting. The Copperhead Course is the ultimate test of your complete game and will take four straight days of consistency to capture this week’s trophy. Also, at 35/1, he is a must-have in the winner’s circle.
