Willie Calhoun Moves Up To Leadoff Slot
4 years agoTexas Rangers designated hitter Willie Calhoun is batting leadoff for the club on Friday against the Chicago White Sox. The young hitter missed the beginning of the season while recovering from a spring injury but he's off to a solid start with four hits and a walk in his first four games. He's also been up to 110.6 mph with his exit velocity. Combined those numbers with his 24-degree launch angle and Calhoun could soon be clearing the outfield fences. The 26-year-old struggled with the bat in 2020 during another injury-filled season and hit just .190 with a 32 wRC+. He appeared on the cusp of a breakout after the 2019 season when he slugged 21 home runs in 83 games.
