Austin Meadows Finished Triple Short Of Cycle Tuesday
4 years agoTampa Bay Rays outfielder Austin Meadows just missed out on hitting for the cycle on Tuesday, finishing 3-for-5 with a double, a home run, two RBI and two runs scored in a 14-7 victory over the Royals. It was Meadows' fourth homer of the season and just his second multi-hit performance, as he improved his triple-slash line to .226/.364/.484 in 17 games. He's been inconsistent at the plate so far, as Tuesday's performance snapped a 1-for-15 streak over his last four games, but he's shown good plate discipline with a career-high 15.6 percent walk rate and a 23.4 percent strikeout rate — which is an improvement on his 32.9 percent rate from 2020. He's already matched his 2020 home run total in half as many games, and he is looking like he will bounce back closer to his 2019 All-Star numbers this year.
