New York Mets third baseman/outfielder J.D. Davis belted his first home run of the season in the Mets' 3-1 loss to the Cubs on Tuesday. His homer, a solo shot, accounted for the Mets' only run of the game. Davis went 2-for-3 with the homer and a walk, raising his slash line to .385/.500/.615 on the season over just 16 plate appearances. Davis, who recently came off the injured list, missed time to begin the season after getting hit in the hand with a pitch in a game against the Phillies during the first week of the season. The performance on Tuesday is a good sign that Davis is healthy and ready to produce for a lineup that has largely underachieved in the early part of 2021. Notably, though, Davis committed two errors playing third base on Tuesday. Continued defensive issues could limit his playing time, notwithstanding his productivity at the plate. Assuming Davis does not lose playing time to Jonathan Villar or Luis Guillorme for defensive reasons, managers can reasonably expect 20-plus HR and 60-plus RBI production from Davis as the Mets' regular third baseman.--Nick Ritrivi - RotoBaller

Free-agent third baseman J.D. Davis signed a minor-league deal with the Baltimore Orioles on Wednesday. This will be Davis' third team of the season after starting the 2024 campaign with the Oakland Athletics and also spending time with the New York Yankees. In Baltimore, he's expected to start at Triple-A Norfolk while giving the O's some depth at third base with Jordan Westburg (hand) and Jorge Mateo (elbow) out for extended time due to injuries. The 31-year-old veteran hasn't made much of an impact with his bat for the A's and Yankees this year, slashing only .218/.293/.338 with four home runs, six RBI and 13 runs scored in 142 at-bats. The former third-round selection by the Houston Astros in 2014 out of Cal State Fullerton is unlikely to be much more than a bench bat if he makes it back to the big leagues in Baltimore to close out the season.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

New York Yankees third baseman J.D. Davis has been placed on outright waivers by the organization on Wednesday. This news comes after Davis was designated for assignment earlier in the week to make a room for Jazz Chisholm Jr. on the roster. The 31-year-old is slashing an ugly .105/.227/.158 with one RBI in 22 plate appearances with the Yankees. Davis has some upside at the plate as he blasted 18 home runs with the San Francisco Giants last season. If unclaimed, Davis will head to free agency where he'll be eligible to sign anywhere.--Andy Webb - RotoBaller

The New York Yankees reinstated infielder J.D. Davis (illness) from the 10-day injured list on Friday before their series opener against the visiting Tampa Bay Rays to kick off the second half of the 2024 season. Davis is back with the big-league club after battling a stomach illness to close out the first half. The 31-year-old could occupy the short side of a platoon at first base with rookie Ben Rice against left-handed pitching, which could make him attractive in AL-only leagues down the stretch, at least until Anthony Rizzo (forearm) returns from the IL. There's not a whole lot of upside with the 31-year-old right-handed bat, though. Davis has one hit in his first 13 at-bats for the Yankees and was hitting .236 (29-for-123) with four home runs and five RBI in 39 games with the Oakland Athletics to begin the campaign.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

The New York Yankees acquired infielder J.D. Davis from the Oakland Athletics for infielder Jordan Groshans and cash considerations on Sunday afternoon. Davis was designated for assignment by the Athletics earlier this week and gives the Yankees some additional depth. The veteran has been relatively mediocre this season as he is slashing .236/.304/.366 with four homers, five RBI and 12 runs scored in 39 games. Landing in New York gives Davis a little more fantasy relevance as he figures to see some playing time with Giancarlo Stanton (hamstring) sidelined. Nevertheless, he is nothing more than a depth option in the deepest of mixed leagues for the time being.--Raymond Harrison - RotoBaller
