Nelson Cruz Has Monster Day At The Plate
4 years agoMinnesota Twins designated hitter Nelson Cruz was an unstoppable force at the plate in Monday's 15-6 rout of the Tigers. Cruz went 3-for-6 with a grand slam, a solo home run, and a double. With the bases juiced in the top of the second, the 40-year-old slugger ripped an apparent home run into the right-field seats that was ruled foul, then on the very next pitch, clubbed a grand slam into left field. Cruz then homered a second time off of Tigers' reliever Buck Farmer- and sent a ball all the way to the warning track in his last at-bat of the day. The exit velocities on both of his home runs were ridiculous- 114.6 and 116.6 MPH. Fantasy managers had to wait until Monday to slot Cruz into their lineups, though it was well worth it after the show he put on. Cruz will face right-hander Casey Mize in the next game of the series on Tuesday. Mize has struggled with the long-ball last year and this spring, so it's another favorable matchup for Cruz.
