Michael Pineda Earns Win On Sunday
4 years agoMinnesota Twins starting pitcher Michael Pineda earned the win in his first start of the 2021 season against the Brewers. Pineda tossed five innings of one-run ball, allowing four hits, one unearned run, and a pair of walks while fanning five batters. The 32-year-old right-hander was cruising through four innings until he got himself into trouble in the fifth, loading the bases before getting two timely strikeouts to work out of the jam. Pineda induced 10 whiffs, six of them on his slider. He'll get a favorable matchup in his next start against the Mariners on April 10. Seattle's lineup posted the eighth-highest strikeout rate in the majors last season, so Pineda could be in a good position to rack up some more punchouts.
