Madison Bumgarner Struggles In Opening Day Start
4 years agoArizona Diamondbacks starting pitcher Madison Bumgarner struggled against the Padres on Thursday, allowing six runs on seven hits and three walks over four innings in an 8-7 Opening Day loss. Bumgarner also had issues with the long ball, as he allowed back-to-back homers to Eric Hosmer and Wil Myers in the third inning. In the midst of all the struggles, Bumgarner did manage to strike out six batters, but he showed some command issues as well with only 58 of his 91 pitches going for strikes. We've known for some time that Bumgarner is no longer the same pitcher he was five years ago, but it's still disappointing to see him have an outing like this. He is a matchup-dependent streaming option going forward.
