Cleveland Indians first baseman Yu Chang will get the start at first in the Opening Day matchup with Detroit. Chang will start over Jake Bauers, who had beaten out Bobby Bradley for a spot on the roster out of Spring Training. He put up some good numbers this spring, slashing .282/.317/.692 with four home runs and 10 RBI in 18 games. He could be an interesting DFS play taking on Matthew Boyd today.--Michael

Tampa Bay Rays infielder Yu Chang (oblique) is dealing with a left-oblique injury in camp and is expected to miss a couple of weeks. The 28-year-old Taiwanese infielder suffered the injury during Wednesday's Grapefruit League game versus the Toronto Blue Jays and is now likely to open the 2024 regular season on the injured list. When he's healthy enough to return, Chang will now likely make his season debut in the minors with Triple-A Durham. He's expected to fill a reserve role for the Rays this year if he's in the big leagues. Chang went 17-for-105 (.162) with six home runs, 18 RBI and four stolen bases in 39 games for the Boston Red Sox in 2023 and has a weak .204/.265/.359 career slash line with 20 homers and 79 RBI in 235 games in his five major-league seasons.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

Former Boston Red Sox infielder Yu Chang has elected free agency. The 28-year-old was designated for assignment back on August 8 and then outrighted to Triple-A Worcester on August 11. Chang dealt with a ton of injuries this season with the Red Sox, putting up a lackluster .162/.200/.352 batting line with six home runs, 18 RBI, four stolen bases, and 12 runs scored over just 105 at-bats (39 games). He will try and get a spring training invite with another club this offseason.--Jon Mathisen - RotoBaller

Boston Red Sox infielder Yu Chang will start Saturday's contest against the Chicago Cubs on the bench. Chang opened the second half of the season on Friday at shortstop, but he'll head to the bench for this one. Enrique Hernandez will handle the 6 on Saturday and will hit in the nine-hole against Cubs right-hander Marcus Stroman. The 27-year-old Chang recently returned from hamate surgery on his hand just before the All-Star break, and he'll likely continue to work as infield depth for the Red Sox. He could lose out on even more playing time once Trevor Story (elbow) makes his 2023 debut. In just 21 games so far in 2023, Chang is hitting a lowly .145 (8-for-55) with four home runs, 11 RBI and seven runs scored.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

Boston Red Sox infielder Yu Chang (wrist, hand) won't play on Saturday. Skipper Alex Cora stated the 27-year-old would suit up for two of the three games versus the A's, so it appears he's in line to return for the series finale on Sunday. Chang recently returned from a lengthy stint on the injured list because of surgery on his hamate bone, so it's certainly understandable for the team to bring him back slowly. But in the meantime, Enrique Hernandez, who is 1-for-1 with a double lifetime against Oakland pitcher Austin Pruitt, will handle things at short while Christian Arroyo will take over at the keystone.--Dennis Clausen - RotoBaller
