Cleveland Indians Could Use Closer-By-Committee To Start Year
4 years agoCleveland Indians relief pitchers James Karinchak, Nick Wittgren and Emmanuel Clase could all be used equally in save situations early on in the year, according to MLB.com's Mandy Bell. Bell reports that manager Terry Francona also said he told the trio they could be brought in for non-save situations as well to make sure they continue to keep getting work. So far this spring, Wittgren has looked the best as he has a 1.23 ERA and 25 percent strikeout rate in eight appearances. Karinchak is currently the only one of the three being drafted in the majority of leagues with an ADP of 105, while Clase and Wittgren are both going between ADP 530 and 540. This news should cause Karinchak's value to drop in drafts, as managers should wait and see who emerges on top in this committee.
