Colorado Rockies starting pitcher Chi Chi Gonzalez will be the team's fifth starter at some point, per manager Bud Black. "He could pitch the fifth game or they could hold him for the third series at San Francisco and use an off day to pitch the other four on regular rest," according to beat writer Nick Groke. Gonzalez put together a decent Cactus League with a 3.72 ERA, 1.45 WHIP, and 6:2 K/BB ratio over 9 2/3 innings. The Rockies will roll with Germán Márquez, Antonio Senzatela, Jon Gray, and Austin Gomber for their opening four-game series vs. the Los Angeles Dodgers. Whenever Gonzalez gets his first start he's not a recommended fantasy option.--Jon Mathisen - RotoBaller

The Miami Marlins agreed to terms with right-hander Chi Chi Gonzalez on a minor-league deal on Tuesday. The deal includes an invitation to spring training next year. The 30-year-old pitched for the Minnesota Twins, Milwaukee Brewers and New York Yankees in 2022, going a combined 7-5 with a 5.87 ERA (5.55 FIP), a 1.52 WHIP, 15 strikeouts and seven walks in 23 innings over just seven appearances (five starts). At best, Gonzalez will be a fill-in spot starter for the Marlins rotation in 2023. In six major-league seasons with five different teams, Gonzalez has a 5.66 ERA (5.37 FIP), a 1.49 WHIP and a 13.5 percent strikeout rate in 284 2/3 innings pitched covering 68 outings (52 starts).--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

New York Yankees starting pitcher Chi Chi Gonzalez had his contract selected and will start Sunday against the Baltimore Orioles. The 30-year-old right-hander pitched relatively well in the minors before being called up but has struggled in limited major league action this year. He owns a 6.87 ERA, 1.53 WHIP, and 12:4 K/BB ratio over 18 1/3 innings (six appearances, four starts).--Jon Mathisen - RotoBaller

The New York Yankees signed free-agent right-hander Chi Chi Gonzalez to a minor league deal on Tuesday. It would be an understatement to say that Gonzalez has bounced around in 2022. The Yankees will be his fourth major league team after stops with the Detroit Tigers, Minnesota Twins and Milwaukee Brewers. He's only thrown 18 1/3 innings over six appearances (four starts), allowing 14 earned runs on 24 hits (five homers surrendered) while walking four and striking out 12. The 30-year-old will merely serve as minor league depth for the Yankees down the stretch.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

Minnesota Twins right-hander Chi Chi Gonzalez, who made a spot start for the team last Friday, exercised an opt-out clause in his contract. The Twins now have 48 hours to add him to the 26-man roster or release him. There's a chance that the team uses Gonzalez to start the game on Saturday against the Tampa Bay Rays, but it's likely that he'll be designated for assignment after that. The 30-year-old allowed three earned runs on four hits (two home runs) while walking none and striking out just one in a three-inning start last Friday against the Toronto Blue Jays. In eight outings (five starts) for Triple-A St. Paul this year, Gonzalez has a 3.44 ERA and 1.26 WHIP in 36 2/3 innings.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
