4 years agoWilliam Byron consolidated his victory at Homestead and parlayed that into three consecutive eighth-place finishes. That consistency expects to serve him well as he starts eighth at the Food City Dirt Race. The Hendrick Motorsports driver had one of the top cars in practice on Friday which only improves his prospects even on dirt. While Byron is not among the favorites, he is one to watch on Sunday especially if he gets off to a good start.--Chris Wassel - RotoBaller

7 days agoWilliam Byron of Hendrick Motorsports will start 10th for this week's Cook Out 400 at Martinsville Speedway. Byron is the only one of the four Hendrick drivers to start outside the top five for Sunday's race. In 14 races at Martinsville, Byron has two wins, which were scored within the last three Spring Martinsville races. He also has eight top-10 finishes and an average finish of 13.3. After six races completed so far this year, Byron has one win, four top-10 finishes, and leads the regular season standings while having the best average finish of 8.7. In practice, Byron ranked 16th in overall lap averages while displaying top-10 speeds in the 10,15, and 20 consecutive lap average categories. Based on his equipment, practice speeds, and recent Martinsville history, it will not be a shock to see Byron maintain a top-10 finish by the end of Sunday's race.--Sean Engel - RotoBaller

2 weeks agoWilliam Byron of Hendrick Motorsports had a performance of missed potential at Homestead-Miami Speedway for the Straight Talk Wireless 400 as he ended in 12th. Beginning the race from the fifth position, Byron showcased that he had one of the better cars of the field as he ran inside the top 10 through the entire stage. Despite making it as high as the top three, Byron faded back to sixth, still scoring stage points. In the second stage, Byron and his No. 24 team utilized pit strategy to get him to the front, but he ran most of the stage in second place before others on fresh tires passed him. Byron ended stage two in fourth, earning more stage points. In the final stage, Byron kept his car clean and tried to use further strategy, but he could not capitalize on his car's speed and was shuffled back in the pack, unlike the previous two stages. Byron would make it back as far as 12th position, giving him just his second finish outside of the top 10 this season. Byron remains the current points standings leader despite his underwhelming result this weekend.--Sean Engel - RotoBaller

2 weeks agoHendrick Motorsports driver William Byron will start fifth for this week's race at Homestead-Miami Speedway. This will be the fourth time in his Cup career that Byron will start a race at Homestead inside the top 10. In seven starts at the Miami track, Byron has one win and four top-10 finishes, which he all earned in his last five races at the site. Through five races so far this season, Byron is the season's points leader with one win and four top-10 finishes. In practice, Byron ranked third in overall lap averages while displaying top-10 speeds in all other categories. The No. 24 Chevrolet driver should continue to be one of the most consistent and best drivers of the season with a strong top-5 performance at Homestead based on track history and practice speeds.--Sean Engel - RotoBaller

3 weeks agoWilliam Byron entered Sunday's NASCAR Cup Series race at Las Vegas as the points leader and expanded his lead over Christopher Bell to 29 points after a fourth-place finish. Byron entered the race as one of the pre-race favorites and did briefly lead twice for 10 laps after passing Bubba Wallace then Michael McDowell for the lead before his teammate Kyle Larson passed him both times. Larson looked faster than Byron for most of the race, but Byron was rarely far behind and ended up passing all the drivers on the main pit strategy by race's end. However, the usual contenders out-thought themselves in choosing to pit during the eighth caution and many others didn't, which (along with contact from Ross Chastain) prevented them from catching the unusual podium finishers of Josh Berry, Daniel Suárez, and Ryan Preece on the other strategy.--Sean Wrona - RotoBaller
