Steven Matz Induces 11 Ground-Ball Outs
4 years agoToronto Blue Jays pitcher Steven Matz struggled a bit with his command but he still held Detroit Tigers batters to two runs over 5.1 innings on Thursday. The veteran lefty allowed six hits with two walks and three strikeouts. After being stung hard by the home run in 2020 (4.11 HR/9) with the New York Mets, Matz had an encouraging GB-FB rate of 11-0. Over four starts this spring, Matz has yet to allow a homer through 15.1 innings. He has a K-BB of 15-2. The reclamation project is expected to open the season as Toronto's third starter behind Hyun-Jin Ryu and Robbie Ray, another inconsistent veteran pitcher that has thrived since joining the organization.
