Yu Darvish Named Opening Day Starter
4 years agoSan Diego Padres starting pitcher Yu Darvish was named the Opening Day starter on Thursday, according to Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune. Darvish has been lights out in two appearances this spring, allowing just one hit while striking out seven in five innings of work. He'll take the mound for the opener against the Diamondbacks after going 8-3 with a 2.01 ERA and 31.3 percent strikeout rate in 2020. The Diamondbacks were a middle-of-the-pack offense in 2020 with a team .241 average and 20.6 percent strikeout rate, so there's no reason to even consider not starting Darvish here.
