Jonah Heim Wins Opening Day Role With Texas
4 years agoTexas Rangers catcher Jonah Heim was informed on Wednesday that he had made the club's opening day roster. The move likely ensures the club's top catching prospect Sam Huff will open the year at the alternate training site. Heim will share the backstop role with Jose Trevino. This spring, the rookie catcher hit .105 (2-for-19) with a double. He also struck out just once and has a history of making a lot of contact. He was acquired from the Oakland Athletics in the Khris Davis deal. Heim had a strong offensive season in the minors in 2019 while splitting the year between double-A and triple-A. He also appeared in 13 games with Oakland in 2020 but hit just .211. He has limited fantasy value at this time.
