Cincinnati Reds right-hander Tejay Antone (groin/hip) has been out of action since leaving his March 17 start with a mild right groin strain. He since added a right hip flexor irritation to his list of injuries during a bullpen session on Saturday. Despite the two nagging injuries, Antone indicated on Tuesday that he expects to be healthy by the start of the regular season, stating, "I think my next bullpen is Thursday. If everything goes as planned on Thursday, looks like I'll be in a game on Sunday and then hopefully make this Opening Day roster." Antone entered camp expected to compete for a spot in the starting rotation but the injuries make it more likely that he opens the regular season in the bullpen. Even pitching out of the bullpen, Antone could still hold some fantasy value in deeper leagues.--Matt T - RotoBaller

Cincinnati Reds manager David Bell said that reliever Tejay Antone (elbow) will have another elbow surgery this Friday after he tore the tendon off the bone while also suffering a partial ligament tear. Antone has already had Tommy John surgery twice in 2017 and 2021. The Reds officially placed him on the 15-day injured list on Monday and recalled right-hander Carson Spiers from Triple-A Louisville in a corresponding move. It's another tough blow for the 30-year-old right-hander and the Reds' bullpen. Because of setbacks from his last Tommy John surgery, Antone has only appeared in nine games for the Reds since 2021. He's not going to make it back in 2024 and probably won't be ready for the start of the 2025 season, either.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

Cincinnati Reds relief pitcher Tejay Antone (elbow) was pulled early during Sunday's appearance against the New York Mets. The 30-year-old was only able to throw one pitch before exiting the game due to elbow discomfort. Following the game, Reds' manager David Bell said Antone will undergo an MRI on Monday. This is a tough blow to the Reds bullpen, assuming Antone is forced to miss time. Fantasy managers will have to check back on Monday for another update on his status.--Andy Webb - RotoBaller

Cincinnati Reds relief pitcher Tejay Antone (elbow) is going through a normal spring training this year for the first time in three years. Antone had Tommy John surgery in 2021 and had multiple setbacks since, including one before last season. He also dealt with elbow tendinitis that put him on the injured list at the end of 2023. The 30-year-old right-hander is in camp trying to win a spot in Cincy's bullpen this spring after making just five appearances out of the bullpen for the team last year. Antone debuted in the major leagues with the Reds in the shortened 2020 season but has only thrown 74 2/3 innings over 41 appearances (five starts) in that time, posting a strong 2.41 ERA and 0.95 WHIP with three saves, 31 walks and 94 strikeouts. He has the stuff to be a high-leverage reliever, but expect the Reds to ease him in if he makes the Opening Day bullpen.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

Cincinnati Reds relief pitcher Tejay Antone (elbow) left his outing on Wednesday night against the Detroit Tigers with right-elbow discomfort. Before leaving, Antone allowed a walk and struck out one in two-thirds of an inning to pick up his first hold of the season. That's where the good news ends. The 29-year-old recently made his 2023 debut after returning from Tommy John surgery, so more elbow pain is a pretty ominous sign for the reliever. Antone came into Wednesday's outing having thrown just five innings out of the Cincy bullpen after making his season debut on Sept. 2. There's a good chance he'll need a trip to the injured list, and it wouldn't be a surprise if we didn't see him again until spring training in 2024.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
