Kyle Hendricks Announced As Opening Day Starter
4 years agoChicago Cubs starting pitcher Kyle Hendricks has been announced as the team's Opening Day starter on April 1 against the Pirates. This isn't particularly surprising, given that Hendricks got the nod last year along with the fact that he is the Cubs' top guy now with Yu Darvish in San Diego. The 31-year-old right-hander pitched to a 2.88 ERA in 12 starts last year, posting a superb 47.1 percent groundball rate along with a minuscule 2.5 percent walk rate. Hendricks won't strike out many guys, but he is a master of inducing weak contact and keeping the bases empty. He should be one of the few real innings-eaters in baseball this year, making him a wise choice as a second or third starter in fantasy drafts.
