Vitek Vanecek Defeats Rangers On Friday
4 years agoWashington Capitals goaltender Vitek Vanecek earned his 13th win of the campaign in his team's 2-1 home victory over the New York Rangers on Friday night. The rookie netminder, who has now won six of his past seven starts, stopped 32 of 33 shots fired his way in the contest. It's been an outstanding first half of the season for the 25-year-old who was not expected to contributed much in 2020-2021. Through 22 starts, Vanecek has posted a 13-5-3 record to go along with a 2.66 goals-against average and a .911 save percentage. He'll likely get a breather in the Caps' second night of a back-to-back on Saturday but should be back in action in the middle of next week versus the Devils.
