Matt Manning Throws Two Shutout Innings
4 years agoDetroit Tigers rookie pitcher Matt Manning threw two shutout innings against the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday. The club is being cautious with the young hurler this spring and limiting his innings after he suffered a forearm strain in 2020. Manning's fastball touched 97 mph in Monday's game and he recorded all his outs with the pitch. He also sprinkled in his slider and changeup. The limited spring work likely means Manning is not in the running for a starter's role on opening day but he could conceivably open the year in the bullpen and build up his stamina in that role. More likely than not, he'll open the year at the club's alternate training site. He's ranked by Rotoballer as the fourth-best pitching prospect for dynasty baseball.
