Chicago White Sox starting pitcher Lucas Giolito has been tabbed as the team's Opening Day starter. This was expected, as Giolito is coming off of a superb season where he struck out 97 batters while walking 28 in 72 1/3 innings, registering a 3.48 ERA. His excellent changeup-slider combo compliments his fastball well, as he generated whiff rates above 40 percent on both off-speed offerings in 2020, contributing to a top-five strikeout rate in the majors. Giolito should be one of the first starters picked out of the second tier of fantasy aces, as he'll be pitching behind perhaps the best team he's played on yet.--Tim Capurso

Boston Red Sox pitcher Lucas Giolito (hamstring) will line up for his first scheduled start of the season this coming Wednesday when his team squares off against the Toronto Blue Jays for their second game of the series. The veteran hurler has been shelved since Spring Training after suffering a low-grade hamstring strain. Giolito had a rough go over his five rehab starts, compiling a 5.19 ERA in 17.1 innings with a 17:13 K:BB ratio across two levels. He was better for Triple-A Worcester, but walked ten batters in 10.1 innings there. The former first-round pick hasn't pitched in the Majors since 2023 after missing all of last season due to an internal brace procedure on his elbow. He has the tools to boost Boston's rotation, but fantasy managers may want to exhibit caution before immediately slotting him into their lineups.--Alex Ciulla

Boston Red Sox right-hander Lucas Giolito (hamstring) is scheduled to make what will be his final minor-league rehab start on Friday for Triple-A Worcester. If everything goes well there, manager Alex Cora said Giolito will come off the injured list to make his 2025 debut next Thursday, May 1, on the road against the division-rival Toronto Blue Jays. The 30-year-old veteran has posted a 4.97 ERA and 1.74 WHIP with 13 strikeouts and seven walks in 12 2/3 innings over his four rehab starts with Worcester and Double-A Portland to this point after suffering a left-hamstring strain in spring training. He also missed the entire 2024 campaign after having an internal-brace procedure on his right elbow, so fantasy managers will want to temper expectations for Giolito in his first season with Boston. Giolito was one of the better pitchers in the league with the White Sox, but that was back in 2019-21.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

Boston Red Sox right-hander Lucas Giolito (hamstring) made his fourth minor-league rehab start on Sunday with Double-A Portland and allowed three earned runs on six hits (one homer) while walking none and fanning four in five innings of work. Over his four rehab starts with Portland and Triple-A Worcester, the 30-year-old veteran has allowed seven earned runs on 15 hits (one homer allowed) while walking seven and striking out 13 in 12 2/3 innings pitched. He got up to 65 pitches in his outing on Easter Sunday and is expected to need at least one more rehab outing on the farm before the Red Sox consider activating him from the 15-day injured list to make his debut with Boston. Fantasy managers need to remember that Giolito didn't pitch at all in 2024 after having an internal-brace procedure on his right elbow, so he's certainly going to be eased back in.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

Boston Red Sox right-hander Brayan Bello (shoulder) will make his next minor-league rehab start for Triple-A Worcester on Wednesday, with right-hander Lucas Giolito (hamstring) starting for the WooSox on Tuesday, according to the Boston Herald's Gabrielle Star. Manager Alex Cora said it will "most likely" be Bello's last rehab start before he's activated from the injured list. Bello is ahead of Giolito after throwing 64 pitches in four innings in his last start for Worcester. If all goes well with his outing on Wednesday, the 25-year-old should make his 2025 debut next week for the BoSox. Both Bello and Giolito will be inserted into Boston's starting rotation, which will bump left-hander Sean Newcomb out. Bello has allowed eight runs (seven earned) in his three rehab starts, but he's walked three and fanned 14 in 9 2/3 frames. In two rehab starts, Giolito has allowed an earned run with four walks and five K's.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
