Jordan Hicks Faces Just One Batter On Sunday
4 years agoSt. Louis Cardinals relief pitcher Jordan Hicks made his first appearance in two years in Sunday's Grapefruit League game against the New York Mets. He threw 22 pitches, 18 for strikes, while averaging over 100 mph on his fastball. Despite all of that? He faced just one batter, issuing a 22-pitch walk to Luis Guillorme. Hicks looked healthy and reportedly felt fine after his outing, but he just couldn't get one past Guillorme, who kept fouling pitches away after an 0-2 start to the plate appearance. Hicks will likely start the season behind Giovanny Gallegos for the closer's role in St. Louis, but he's a decent bet to take over the ninth inning before long.
