Ryan Newman Could Lurk Around Top-Ten Sunday
4 years agoRyan Newman is a longtime veteran and has raced at the Phoenix track for 21 years. Even without the best of cars, the Jack Roush Racing driver can improve his position by at least several spots on Sunday. The 2017 winner of this race has the know-how to get some points on place differential alone. Will it be a dramatic rise in position? No. Also, Newman will not lead any laps on Sunday. At least, that is the expectation. Again, he represents some decent upside.

Ryan Newman Qualifies 27th For Bristol Race On Saturday
2 years agoRyan Newman got the call for Rick Ware Racing and delivered a 27th place effort in qualifying on Friday. The No. 51 Ford driver had two top five results at Bristol what feels like moons ago (a second in 2004). Needless to say, the Rick Ware car has had slower track speed. Even in practice, Newman was dead last and his 10-lap average was 16.005 seconds. That is not a good sign on a track where low 15's is a lot more optimal. Expect Newman to be closer to the back again.

Ryan Newman Very Slow At Darlington This Weekend
2 years agoRyan Newman is back in the No. 51 Ford for Rick Ware Racing this weekend, as "The Rocketman" will be making his fourth start of the 2023 season on Sunday evening in the Cook Out Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway. Newman raced here at Darlington back in May, driving this same race car to a 28th-place finish. He also came home in 30th-place at Loudon this season and 29th at Richmond. This weekend, Newman was the slowest car in practice and he qualified in 35th-place out of 36 cars. He should be able to compete for a top-30 finish on Sunday evening as long as there is attrition, but that's about the ceiling for this No. 51 team right now.

Temper Your Expectations For Ryan Newman At Richmond
2 years agoRyan Newman is a previous winner at Richmond Raceway, but don't expect him to compete for the win this weekend in Sunday's Cook Out 400. "The Rocketman" is making his third start of the season on Sunday in the No. 51 Ford for Rick Ware Racing. Newman's previous two starts have ended in finishes of 28th-place (Darlington) and 30th-place (New Hampshire). On the year, the No. 51 Ford has an average result of 27.6 with a best non-superspeedway finish of 23rd-place at Kansas with J.J. Yeley behind the wheel. In practice at Richmond this weekend, Newman was 15th-fastest and then he qualified in 32nd-place later that day. A top-20 finish would probably feel like a win for this Rick Ware Racing team this weekend.

Ryan Newman Qualifies 33rd At New Hampshire
2 years agoRyan Newman is back behind the wheel of a Cup Series car this weekend at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, as the veteran driver will pilot the No. 15 Ford for Rick Ware Racing. In practice, Newman struggled quite a bit, posting just the 34th-fastest lap out of the 36 drivers that practiced. His 10-lap average during that session ranked 20th-fastest out of the 21 drivers that made a longer run, beating only Austin Dillon on that chart. Earlier this season, Newman finished 28th at Darlington while driving for Rick Ware Racing, and that's about the ceiling that you should expect out of "The Rocketman" here at New Hampshire on Sunday.
