4 years agoSt. Louis Cardinals right-handed pitcher John Gant is currently lined up to be the team's fifth starter once the regular season begins. Cardinals writer Derrick Goold noted that Gant has been pitching on the same days as Opening Day starter Jack Flaherty, which would line him up with the Cardinals schedule to be the fifth man in the starting rotation. Gant has been pitching out of the bullpen for the past two seasons, but he did make 19 starts in 2018 and fared decently. He's developed much more swing-and-miss stuff out of the bullpen, but that will likely regress a bit if he's throwing multiple innings as a starter. Still, Gant could be a decent rotation filler in deeper leagues if he wins the starting role.
