Michael Chavis Aware He Has Uphill Battle To Make Roster
4 years agoBoston Red Sox infielder Michael Chavis knows he has something to prove this spring. In a recent interview, he stated, "I'm not even sure I have a place on the team." The Red Sox have a lot of multi-positional utility players on this year's roster, making Chavis's versatility less valuable. The Red Sox added Marwin Gonzalez and Kike Hernandez this offseason. The team also saw the emergence of first baseman Bobby Dalbec last year, giving Dalbec the inside track to one of Chavis's primary positions, first base. Chavis has had a strong spring. Over his first 14 at-bats, he hit .429 with two homers a double. However, he struggled last year, slashing .212/.259/.377 with five home runs, 19 RBI and 50 strikeouts over 146 at-bats.
