Steven Matz Throws Three Shutout Innings
4 years agoToronto Blue Jays hurler Steven Matz completed three shutout innings against the Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday afternoon. The lefty threw all of his pitches for strikes and was up to 95 mph with his fastball. Matz allowed just one hit and struck out three batters. In two starts spanning five innings this spring, he has yet to allow a run and has struck out six batters. Matz is coming off a nightmare 2020 season while with the Mets. He finished last year with a 9.68 ERA in nine appearances (six starts). With uncertainty in the starting rotation beyond Hyun-Jin Ryu, the club is looking for players to step up and Matz is off to a good start.
