Dylan Cease Impresses In Live Batting Practice Session
4 years agoChicago White Sox starting pitcher Dylan Cease impressed in a live batting practice session earlier this week. Long-described as having "nasty" stuff, Cease caught the attention of catcher Jonathan Lucroy, who talked about the former's "devastating arsenal of weapons." In particular, Cease has a good off-speed combo in his repertoire- a curveball and slider that featured vertical movements at least five inches better than the average last season. He can touch 97 on his fastball but sometimes struggles with command- as evidenced by his 5.2 walks per nine innings in 2020. Cease has the makings of a star pitcher- above-average strikeout and groundball rates- but needs to limit the walks and home runs to take the next step. He'll likely be undrafted in fantasy leagues but is a sleeper for the 2021 season.
