Javier Baez Avoided Serious Injury After Being Hit By Pitch
4 years agoChicago Cubs shortstop Javier Baez (forearm) avoided serious injury after being hit by a pitch in the third inning of Friday's Cactus League loss to the Indians. Baez winced in pain and didn't come out to play defense in the top of the fourth, though the Cubs said that it's a soft-tissue injury. The 28-year-old struggled in 2020, slashing just .203/.238/.360 in 59 games, attributing the down year to the lack of in-game video. Baez was a good producer in the run-scoring, home run, RBI, and stolen base categories in two All-Star campaigns in 2018 and 2019, though fantasy investors will have to decide which performances they trust more. He's probably closer to the guy who hit 34 homers and stole 21 bases in 2018, but his 71 ADP is a fairly hefty price to pay to find out.
