Walker Buehler's Early Start This Spring Could Pay Dividends
Walker Buehler is on the mound earlier this spring than in the buildup to past seasons. Buehler made his first spring start on Tuesday against the Giants, as he needed just 24 pitches to navigate through two scoreless innings. The 26-year-old right-hander's fastball was clocked at 93 MPH, down from 96.8 MPH last season, though that can be attributed to his early start. Speaking of which, Buehler has had delays in each of the last two preseasons, which certainly affected his longevity in games later on in the season. Buehler is in the second tier of fantasy starters, but his career 3.23 FIP and 22.3 career K-BB rate make him a fine choice inside the top-20 picks.

Walker Buehler Getting Testing On His Shoulder, Won't Start Friday
Walker Buehler (shoulder) didn't bounce back well from his last start and is currently back in Boston getting testing done on his right shoulder. As of right now, the Red Sox are saying that Buehler is dealing with shoulder soreness, but he could be a candidate to land on the 15-day injured list, depending on what his tests reveal. The 30-year-old veteran gave up three earned runs on seven hits (one homer) while walking one and striking out three in six innings in a win against the Cleveland Guardians in his last outing on April 26. It's unclear if he'll need a stint on the IL, but at the very least he won't make his next scheduled start on Friday against the Minnesota Twins, with Brayan Bello now set to take the mound in the series opener. Through his first six starts in Boston, Buehler has gone 4-1 with a 4.28 ERA and 1.22 WHIP with 29 K's and nine walks in 33 2/3 innings pitched.

Walker Buehler Sharp In Win Over White Sox
Walker Buehler had his best start of the season on Monday, earning his third win in a 4-2 victory over the Chicago White Sox. Buehler allowed one run on four hits over his seven innings of work. He struck out nine and walked three. The 30-year-old has been a little up and down so far this season, but this was certainly a step in the right direction. He now holds a respectable 4.23 ERA and 1.19 WHIP with 26 strikeouts in 27 ⅔ IP. Buehler is borderline rosterable in standard formats, but is a very good streaming option when he has good matchups like he did today.

Walker Buehler Fans Seven On Thursday
Walker Buehler was excellent on Thursday on a day the Red Sox desperately needed a win to avoid the four-game sweep at home against the division-rival Toronto Blue Jays. Buehler went 6 1/3 innings, allowing four hits, one earned run, and one walk while striking out seven. He walked away from this outing with a no-decision, as the Red Sox won the game in extra innings. The seven strikeouts were encouraging, and his effectiveness was impressive, as he only threw 89 pitches in the six-plus innings. Buehler will try to keep it going and is tentatively lined up to face the Tampa Bay Rays on the road. Fantasy managers can continue to roll out Buehler in most 12-plus team leagues, but they are hoping to see more consistency from him moving forward.

Walker Buehler To Start On Saturday
Walker Buehler (illness) is scheduled to take the mound against the Texas Rangers on Saturday. The right-hander was scratched from his most recent start due to a minor illness. It sounds like Buehler looked fine during his five innings of work on Monday. The team doesn't believe this illness will linger into the regular season, so Buehler appears to be ready to go. Buehler is coming off a rough 2024 campaign, but he somewhat salvaged his value with his strong performance in the postseason. It's worth noting Buehler hasn't finished with an ERA under 4.02 since the 2021 season. He could be a solid back-end option for the Red Sox, but his fantasy value might be limited.
