Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Brandon Woodruff (back) is expected to throw a bullpen session Tuesday, Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. Woodruff was initially in line to make his Cactus League debut Tuesday against the Athletics, but the Brewers scratched him a day in advance of the game after he experienced some back stiffness. Manager Craig Counsell downplayed the injury Monday, and the fact that Woodruff will still be allowed to throw in some capacity Tuesday, so the issue appears to be minor. Woodruff's 24.9 percent strikeout-minus-walk percentage ranked ninth in the majors last year. He's the Brewers ace and should again post good returns on investment for fantasy owners who draft him.--James Stokke

MLB.com's Adam McCalvy reports that Milwaukee Brewers right-hander Brandon Woodruff (ankle, shoulder) will not come off the 15-day injured list to make his 2025 season debut this weekend against the Minnesota Twins and will instead get treatment for his ankle tendinitis for the next week and make another minor-league rehab start. The Brewers aren't going to take any chances with a pitcher that missed all of 2024 due to right-shoulder surgery that he had in September of 2023. Woodruff only went 2 1/3 innings in his sixth minor-league rehab start with Triple-A Nashville on Sunday and will be given one more rehab start before Milwaukee re-evaluates the 32-year-old veteran's ankle. Woodruff operated as a fantasy ace before his shoulder surgery in 2023, but fantasy managers will want to temper expectations for him upon his return as he's eased back into the big-league rotation.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

The Milwaukee Brewers returned right-hander Brandon Woodruff (ankle, shoulder) from his minor-league rehab assignment at Triple-A Nashville, but he's still on the 15-day injured list with right-ankle tendinitis that popped up before his final rehab start, according to MLB.com's Adam McCalvy. The initial word is that it's a minor injury, though. It's unclear if it will impact the team's plan for Woodruff to come off the IL to make his 2025 season debut this weekend against the Minnesota Twins. The 32-year-old veteran only made it through 2 1/3 innings in his last rehab outing on Sunday with Nashville because of his ankle. Woodruff could still make his season debut against the Twins this weekend, but it's another reminder for fantasy managers to exercise caution with a pitcher that didn't make a single start in 2024 after having capsule surgery on his right shoulder in September of 2023.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

Milwaukee Brewers right-hander Brandon Woodruff (shoulder) will make one more minor-league start with Triple-A Nashville on Sunday. Barring a setback, Woodruff will be activated from the injured list to make his 2025 debut during the team's series at home against the Minnesota Twins that starts next Friday, May 16, according to MLB.com's Adam McCalvy. The 32-year-old veteran has looked good in five rehab starts, posting a 2.70 ERA and 1.24 WHIP with seven walks and 22 strikeouts with High-A Wisconsin (two starts) and Nashville (three starts). He is making his way back from right-shoulder in September of 2023. Woodruff was a fantasy ace before his injury and should be stashed in all fantasy formats, but you might want to temper your expectations initially as Milwaukee looks to ease him back into their starting rotation.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Brandon Woodruff (shoulder) had another successful rehab start on Tuesday with Triple-A Nashville. Woodruff pitched five innings, allowing two runs on seven hits (including a solo home run) and a walk with six strikeouts over 83 pitches. The 32-year-old has now made two starts with High-A Wisconsin and three with Nashville, allowing eight runs (seven earned) on 22 hits, seven walks, and 22 strikeouts in 23 1/3 IP. Woodruff missed all of the 2024 season due to right shoulder surgery, but he has been trending in the right direction to making his 2025 debut. While he has been a fantasy ace in the past, fantasy managers may want to temper expectations even though he has pitched well in his rehab assignment.--Connelly Doan - RotoBaller
