Blazers guard/forward Derrick Jones Jr. is a worthy consideration as a fantasy basketball waiver wire pickup heading into Week 11 of the NBA season.
BALLER MOVE: Add in 14-Team Leagues
ROSTERED IN: 24% of leagues
ANALYSIS: In a team that has been ravaged by injuries, Derrick Jones has definitely found his place. Jones signed with the Blazers this past offseason, and so far so good for the former Heat. Jones has started 27 of the 28 games he's played and in the lone bench-game he logged he still played 18 minutes (on Feb. 6).
Jones is averaging 28 minutes of playing time, and although his usage numbers are nothing otherworldly (12.2% on the season) the truth is that they have gone up a bit to near-14% levels of late. Jones has played 30+ minutes in all but one of his last seven games, all since Feb. 14, and has seen an uptick in his counting stats and total numbers because of that greater playing time.
Starting at SF every time out, Jones is averaging a 12-6-1 line in the past two weeks through Saturday's game against the Lakers. He's also shooting better than he has done all year long, hitting 65 percent of his healthy 7 FGA while scoring at least 1 triple in five of the last seven games. Jones is a good target in both 8- and 9-cat leagues as his TOs are low, and can provide both scoring and boards with massive blocking upside (1.1 BPG on the year, 2 BPG in the last two weeks).
